What’s Next
Many authors start their web pages with biographical information, but frankly, I’ve led a very boring life. (That’s not a complaint. “May you live in interesting times” really is a curse, and “May you lead an interesting life” is even worse.) When I go to my favorite authors’ web sites the thing I’m really looking for is: What’s Coming Out Next!
It’s been a while since I’ve updated this, because it’s been a while since my website even existed. Last spring for some reason I looked up my website and found the listing full of Asian characters. (There are some good things about using AOL as your browser—no one with a modern browser could even see it.) But when my web person got on there were a whole bunch of fly-by-night characters using my website to post all kinds of weird things. If you clicked on a link somewhere and found yourself looking at pages of Asian characters and blank CDs, please forgive me. We had the site down within a week, but getting it up again has—clearly—taken a lot more time. I ended up with not just a new site, but a whole new webhoster—but this one should be very secure!
As for what’s coming next… I’m in kind of a weird writing place right now. Retrenching, is maybe how to describe it. In fact, I would probably be wise to concentrate on the new day jobs and forget about writing. But I had a dream last night—I was in some sort of survivor style game—where I found myself telling someone I was an ex-writer…and the moment I said it, it hurt so bitterly that I actually woke up. I don’t want to ever have to say that in real life and mean it. So I’m going to be doing a lot of things in the near future:
I’m still working on getting my backlist out under my own steam.
I’m going to check out Patreon, and maybe list myself there.
And on Patreon, I’m going to start by listing the chapters of The Fixer as I revise them. I wrote Fixer not long ago, but I know I need to go over it again, with distance—and maybe some reader feedback about whether my romance is working or not! Then, I’m going to see if I can find a small publisher to bring Fixer out. Hybrid author has a nice ring to it, I think.
The Fixer is a novel set in the Goblin universe, but it takes place about 500 years after the earlier goblin book. My heroine is a descendant of the Chanduri (turns out having cannibal ancestors doesn’t make your people popular) who has to stop an assassin from destroying a peace conference that is trying to stop that world’s version of WWI. Steam punk, with goblins. Not bad. And you’ll hear a lot more about that next year.
